Looks like GCN’s concerns that Apple was overstating iPad battery life in face of IPS display power needs reached Apple CEO Steve Jobs while he was sitting in his chair enjoying his 9.7 magical, revolutionary tablet:

I e-mailed him to say that I didn’t mean to imply that he was lying during his iPad presentation, as several people accused me of in their comments. People make presentations written by marketers all the time that are not 100 percent truthful, and it doesn’t make them liars. I used the normal, publicly available e-mail address for him, not any of the special ways we press folks can sometimes get access. I figured that would be the end of it.

Two hours later:

[...]yes, we are getting 10 hours in 1.5 pounds.

Sent from my iPad

Boom.

‘Course we get to find out for ourselves when the iPad ships on April 3 in the US.

Developer of ProSeitcher and infinidock has released infiniboard which allows vertical scrolling on the iPhone springboard, while keeping horizontal scrolling intact. A(n) xSellize member cracked it within 10 minutes of the initial release. Chpwn responds to this with the following statements:

I really appreciate your support and compliments for my apps. You could consider supporting them, since you all seem to really like them when I release. However, not supporting them makes me want to not support all you guys, and not make new ones.

So its really up to you. I mean you, the person reading this. This app was cracked in less than half an hour, maybe less. Does that encourage me to write more awesome apps? Does that encourage me to keep working, knowing that you guys will crack it? Should I spend my time not on apps, but on protection from piracy? I know I can protect my apps better than the current crackers can defeat, but I don't. Its a waste of time.

So, all I ask of you, is to support the software that you think is worthy of your support. And if you don't think it is worthy, I don't think you should be using it.

Thanks,
chpwn

This makes me feel bad for him. I personally buy all of my apps (seriously), I just bought this one and it is amazing. But back to the topic, if u use a cracked app, tweak, etc, and you like it, buy it. Screenshots Below:

It does not, look good with a(n) transparent dock. But that's just my opinion, what do you think?

Steve Jobs Confirms iPhone Cannot Tether With iPad

In response to an email from a Swedish Apple fan, Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone cannot tether to the iPad.

I'll keep it short.

I'm Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:

Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?

Two devices, based on the same OS, with already built-in technology to share one data plan suggests a secondary contract could possibly be redundant.

From the look of your keynote, where the iPad sits well between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I was hoping the three of them could interact as seamless as possible.

All the best,
Jezper Söderlund

No.

Unsurprisingly, Apple and AT&T want customers to purchase network access and more expensive 3G version. Lets hope the device gets jailbroken quickly!

*Update: some of our commenters have correctly mentioned that MyWi can be used to establish a wireless hotspot for the iPad to connect to, although that would eat up the iPhone battery very quickly.

Sony is developing a new lineup of products to compete with Apple's growing stable of portable devices, according to the WSJ.

Journal sources say, the company plans to release a new smartphone which is capable of downloading and playing Playstation games.

In addition, plans for a device that combines a netbook, e-reader, and PSP are underway. The new product is designed to compete against the Apple iPad and similar devices.

As part of Chief Executive Howard Stringer's turnaround plan Sony plans to distribute movies, television shows, music, and games to these devices via the Sony Online Service.

While the company has made progress in cutting costs and streamlining its production; it has not delivered a game changer product to tie in their online service and help move the company forward.

Hopefully, Sony will be able to build a worthy rival for Apple's iPad. This would push Cupertino to innovate further with consumers winning out in the end.

Thieves Rappel From Best Buy Ceiling to Steal $26,000 Worth of MacBooks

Thieves cut a hole in the roof and rappelled down into a Best Buy, without touching the ground, to steal $26,000 worth of Apple notebook computers, reports NJ.com.

Amazingly the bandits performed the whole heist without setting off alarms or being caught on tape.

On top of the building, they used a saw to cut through several inches of rubber and insulation, then sliced a 3-foot-wide square in the metal roof.

Once inside, the burglars dropped 16 feet to 10-foot-tall racks — avoiding contact with the floor, where motion sensors would have set off an alarm. They snatched the notebooks from the racks, then went back out through the roof.

Avoiding store security cameras by choosing a spot where the cameras were obscured by advertising banners, the thieves managed to grab $26,000 in laptop computers and departed down a 3-inch gas pipe that runs from the roof to the ground outside the store.

"High level of sophistication," said Detective James Ryan, a police department spokesman. "They never set off any motion sensors. They never touched the floor. They rappelled in and rappelled out."

Employees discovered the missing laptops when they arrived to work this morning.
